Annie Rights
Annie is a 12 year old girl that can put up a fight. She is very stern when it comes to spreading people by what money they have. Usually in grumpy mood and wishes she could just fit in. She beileves to judge someone on the inside..... unless the person is a stuck-up rich person.
Heather Rights
Heather is the mother of Jim and Annie. Is a very busy woman and works double, even triple sfts. Has a big crush on Mr. Henson and hopes one day she could settle down with him.
Jim Rights
Jim is the big brother of Annie. Ever since his father let he has been behaving darkly. Man of his family. Found of Neal Henson and happy he came into his mother's life. Protective of his sister.
Neal Henson
Henry
Henry is a 12 year old boy with red hair and blue eyes. He is in a poor family that doesn't come into the story much. He just moved to Annie's neighborhood and tries to stay with her and go where ever she goes. Does NOT like water and dreams of Annie.
Now to the Story........
"Annie!" my mom called. "Get down here right now!"
I wondered if she knew.
Today at school some kids in my grade made fun of my torn up old handy-downs that I wear everyday. My mom couldn't afford new clothes. She couldn't afford almost anything! It took her years to save up for one year of 7th grade. My big brother, Jim said I was lucky. He never got to go to school like I did.
Anyway, the two boys picking on me at school really got on my nerves. I gave them both a black eye each for their troubles.
I snorted to myself. 'Rich people, think they know everything.'
Even worse my dad left mama with nothin. Nothing but a few pennies. He was the worker in our family... We're as some kids call 'poor.'
I don't like that word.. I don't think it's fair that they get more advanages then we do. It just doesn't make sense to me.
Mom had to find a job and now she's only home at night on weekdays. Once in a while she would take a day off, but not often.
I ignore her calls and look around my room. It was the shape of a small circle. I had a good bed with sheets to keep me warm. A mirrior was on the wall and a pile of blankets where in the corner.
Jim was reading in his room across the hall. His room looked just like mine, but there where piles of books everywhere.
He read all the books he could get his hands on. That took a lot of work, if you know what I mean... (stealing)
"Annie come down here right now!" mom called up the stairs.
I had no choice but to obey her.
This wasn't going to be pretty......
I carefully walked down the short hallway and climbed down the flight of stairs ( they creak with every step you take ).
"I don't get it Annie," mom spoke as I approuched her in the kitchen. "Your only 12; you shouldn't be getting into fights like this!"
"Mom," I protested. "They were making fun of me again. You know that's a form of bullying." I spoke in an snappy tone.
Yelling at each other about money; its a part of our daily lives since daddy left.
I stormed to the front door. When I opened it a ran into a man with a fancey suit and a green tie.
As I backed up with a stunned look on my face th man looked at me through narrow eyes. He snorted and I slammed the door in his face and ran to Jim's room.
Bussiness workers can take our home, our lives away with the snap of a fingers. Mom hasn't been paying our bills and money was tight.
Knocking continued at the door.
I ran and jumpped right into Jim's bed.
"Whoa what's going on?" asked the 17 year old.
"A bussiness man is at the door!" I told him.
My heart was beating faster then it should be. Was I scared?
'Of course your scared. You have all the right to be scared of a stuck up kind of person like that.,' I told myself.
Jim grabbed his small shot gun and ran to the door that mom was about to open. I trailed behind.
Mom took a look in the little hole that let her see on the other side and backed away and blew out the candles so that no light was showing.
We made no sound.More knocks, we all kept quiet.
Jim was leaning on his back on the door, gun ready.
The knocks was replaced with avoice. "I know your in there, I saw the um young lady. Open up please. I just want to meet you."Jim looked at me, or I thought he did. His black hair covered his blue eyes.
Jim loaded his gun with a 'click and in a swift motion he opened the door a pointed the gun at the man.
"I know your here to take away all my mother worked so hard to keep. I will shoot," he said.
The man looked at Jim calmly. He oviously didn't think Jim was going to pull the trigger. He had before though, it was really scary.
This side of Jim scared me.
Voilent.
You need to use violence with people like this or they will alwys think they are better then you.
Well that's what I have learned so far.
"Put the gun down boy," the man at the door said. "I'm just a neighbor."
Jim put the gun down, but kept a grip on it.
Mama stepped out of the corner of the door to shake hands with the new nieghbor. "Hi my name is Heather Rights and these are my children." She put an arm around Jim. "This is Jim." She laughed in embaressmen as she introduced the teenager with blck hair over his eyes, tatered clothes and a gun in his hands.
I would be embaressed too.
"He's protective but he's a sweetie pie once you get to know him," mom said.
She pointed to me next. "This is Annie. She is shy but can give someone a black eye if she needed to." She laughed again but her joke fell flat.
The man tipped his head. "The name is Neal Henson."
"Would you like to come in for something to drink?" Mama asked politly.
Something was fishy here...
He nodded and stepped insdie.
I didn't like to have strange people inside my house. This was really uncomfortable.
I got two cups and filled them with the last of our tea.
I cringed as I did. Another thing for my mom to worry about.
I handed one to her and then to Mr. Henson in the living room which was just a couch and a coffe table with pictures everywhere.
"Thank you."
I rolled my eyes and grunted and went back to my room.
Mr. Henson didn't leave till very late that night.
He was having luch with my mom when I got home from school two weeks after we met him.
